(10.12. 2014) We Romani activists are protesting against today’s Roma Spirit awards, we are protesting against some of the nominations, and we also disagree with the organization and the overall concept of the reward.
We are not opposed to awards for Roma, or for the friends of Roma. Some nominees have our deepest respect. However, the Roma Spirit alleges to showcase achievements in the field of Social Integration, however, Roma Inclusion is failing. Thus, poor Roma, the people at the heart of this cause, have no possibility of nomination or any influence on the nominees and awards.
The Roma world looks different than as presented here tonight. To the real Roma hero, “you’re not invited”.
